I started making soap almost three years ago. It started as a hobby. Then it became a fundraiser for our adoption of Abraham. Now it's actually a business. A very, teeny-tiny, microscopic business, but it's a business just the same. Okay, it's really more of a self-supported hobby. I do still donate a portion of profits to helping orphans; either by donating to a family who is adopting or by donating to orphan care. The soaps are WONDERFUL. Yes, I'm a bit biased, but that's also the honest-to-goodness truth. Commercial soaps are primarily made with lard and detergent...economical, yes, but...yuck. When you live in an area with hard water, the last thing you want on your skin is detergent. Why not just bathe in laundry detergent and be done with it? So, I make my soaps with lots of moisturizing oils and butters. My favorites are olive oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, shea butter, cocoa butter and calendula extract oil. I experiment with fragrances and colors often. You'll rarely find the same soap twice.
